“Deft” Kim Hyuk-gyu expressed his feelings against Gen.G.
On the 1st, at the LCK Arena located in Roll Park, Jongno-gu, Seoul, the first round of the ‘2023 LCK Spring’ regular season, Dplus Kia vs. Gen.G, was held.
On this day, Dplus Kia had an advantage in the early stages, but lost consecutive teamfights and the situation was unfavorable, and eventually fell to 4th place after being defeated by Gen.G 2:0.
In an interview with the losing team after the match, coach Cheon-ju Choi of ‘Acorn’ and Hyeok-kyu Kim shared what they regretted playing against Gen.G, what they learned from consecutive defeats, and their determination to face the Guangdong Freecs.
The following is the full text of the interview with director Choi Chun-joo and Kim Hyuk-gyu.
First, please tell us about your impressions of the game.
Coach Choi: We won on the blue side at the beginning of the tournament, but this time there is a different reason for choosing the red side. However, it was regrettable that the results were not good in the competition, and I thought that I should prepare hard because I felt that I was still lacking.
Kim Hyuk-gyu: I think our team is still lacking in overcoming a crisis situation or when a mistake is made, but that seems to have come out in today’s game. This is a very difficult problem, but I think it is a problem that needs to be overcome in order to become one of the strongest teams in the future.
(To Coach Choi) Why did you choose the red side for today’s game?
Speaking from my point of view as a manager, I wanted to show a variety of winning patterns, and in order for us to become a stronger team and grow, we need to prepare several ways to win on both sides, so ‘I can show what we have prepared in real competitions. We practiced with ‘Is there?’ as the direction.
It went well in the beginning, but the situation turned upside down in an instant. At what point do you think the game tilted?
Coach Choi: In the first set, there was a big miss before giving Baron to the opponent. Before that, we had to organically connect with each other, such as line management and visual field work, but that didn’t work.
Kim Hyuk-kyu: Our combination was a combination that we had to do well slowly, but after giving up Baron in an instant, the game became very difficult.
Can you explain a bit more about the circumstances that led to the loss of Baron (to Deft)?
The opponent had an ultimate skill and the dragon time was running out, so only ‘Canyon’ decided to look at Baron’s steel angle. Even if we give Baron, since we have 2 dragons stacked, we thought that the game would be fine if we stacked 3 dragons, so we talked about it. Then, the teamfight seemed worthwhile, so the plan was changed belatedly, but it became a problem that the team didn’t come together quickly enough. If you want to give Baron, you have to give it, and if you want to block it, you have to block it, but that didn’t work out.
(To Coach Choi) What did you learn from the last two games?먹튀검증
Due to the recent loss in the two games, both in-game and ban-pick, it became clear what we were lacking and what we needed to improve.
(To Director Choi) How do you rate the western region?
Now, I know they played 4 or 5 games each, but overall, I think KT and Hanwha Life Insurance are teams with enough potential. I wonder if the two teams will rise toward the end of the league. Liv Sanbak thinks that although we won and lost to Gen.G, the results could be different depending on how well prepared we were and how the team was feeling on the day.
I am curious about your resolution for the next game against Guangdong Freecs.
Director Choi: I think the fans might be worried because we showed a lot of bad performances in the previous two games. We will make up for the bad sides we showed in the process of losing.
Kim Hyuk-gyu: When I first came to the team, it was not fun because the players felt like they were all aligned, but now, in the process of losing, the team showed a lot of ‘this player lacks something and our team lacks something’, so the game was lost, but the players From my point of view, it seems more fun. I will come back better prepared.
