Carlos Queiroz (70, Portugal), former head coach of the Iran national football team, was appointed as the coach of the Qatar national football team, which hosted the FIFA World Cup last year.

The Qatar Football Association officially announced on the 7th (Korean time) that coach Queiros took the helm as the national team’s command tower. His contract period is until the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America (co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico).

He led his country Portugal national team to the World Cup finals in South Africa in 2010, and then experienced the finals as coach of the Iranian national team at the 2014 Brazil, 2018 Russia, and 2022 Qatar World Cups.

From 2011 to 2019, he served as the coach of the Iranian national team, then led the Colombian and Egyptian national teams, and took the Iranian coaching staff again last year.

In 2013, while leading the Iranian national team, Queiros caused controversy by throwing a fist potato at the national team’s bench during an expedition to Korea.

Meanwhile, Qatar, which first entered the finals as a host country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, said goodbye to coach Felix Sanchez after suffering 3 losses in Group A in the group stage.

The Qatar Football Association expressed their belief, saying, “Coach Queiroz has a wealth of experience and knowledge in Asian football.”
