Heung-min Son ‘SON top + first goal’ against Burnley this weekend?

Tottenham’s striker is out with an injury. That leaves the door open for Son Heung-min to start up front.

Tottenham Hotspur will face Burnley in the fourth round of the 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) on Sept. 2 at 11 p.m. ET at Turf Moor in Burnley, England. Tottenham currently sits in third place with two wins and a draw.

Since the start of the season, Spurs have been on their best run in a long time. They had a bit of a letdown against Brentford in the first round, drawing 2-2, but they picked up the momentum with back-to-back 2-0 wins over Manchester United and Bournemouth.

Energized, Tottenham rotated their lineup for the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup) against Fulham on Oct. 30. Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, and Giovanni Lo Celso, who hadn’t played much, started. The likes of James Maddison and Dejan Klucepski were rested on the bench, along with Son Heung-min, who had been a consistent starter in league play.

Tottenham’s choice proved to be poison. They went behind to an own goal by Theo Ben in the 19th minute of the first half to give Fulham a point. Spurs managed to level the scores 11 minutes into the second half with a goal from Christian Benteke, but Davinson Sanchez’s penalty in the ensuing penalty shootout resulted in a 3-5 defeat. With the ‘irrelevance jinx’ in place, Spurs were one win away from another trophy.

To make matters worse. News broke of an injury to the player who had scored the winner. In his pre-match press conference this week, manager Enze Postecoglou said, “He took a bit of a blow to his ankle. I don’t know the extent of it,” he said of the ankle injury.

The exact nature of the injury is unknown, but if it’s severe, it’s unlikely he’ll play against Burnley. The midfielder has been struggling since joining Spurs last year, but Postecoglou has kept him up front since the start of the season. 메이저사이트

British outlet Sporting Mall suggested that Son Heung-min could start in the center of the park in place of the injured player. “Postecoglou didn’t elaborate on his injury problems. If he is unable to play on Saturday, 19-year-old Dane Scarlett could replace him. However, he is still inexperienced, so Son Heung-min could fill his role instead.”

Heung-Min Son has often been responsible for Tottenham’s goals from both the flanks and the center. Since his appointment in August, the attack-minded Postecoglou has consistently used a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Son often playing on the left wing.

But things have changed. The injury to Heung-min opened the door for Son to play up front instead of on the flanks. He’s more than capable of filling the role he’s been lacking. Heung-min had a disappointing performance in the first game of the season against Brentford, but was influential in the subsequent games against Man United and Bournemouth. When Xherdan Shaqiri was subbed off in the second half, Son moved up to the front line and was involved in attacks from both the flanks and the center.

Son also has fond memories of Burnley, who were promoted this season. The 2019-20 season’s Pushkas award-winning goal, a stunning 70-meter dribble, came against Burnley. If Heung-Min Son is unable to play this weekend, it’s likely that he’ll take his place up front.
