Paul Pogba (Juventus, 30), once considered the best midfielder in the world, has been caught doping. Pogba faces up to four years of suspension unless he can prove he didn’t take drugs.
먹튀검증 Multiple media outlets, including the BBC, La Gazzetta dello Sport, and Di Marzio, reported on Wednesday (June 12) that “Pogba is provisionally suspended for an anti-doping violation. The Italian Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) announced on Wednesday that Pogba had an elevated testosterone (male hormone) level in a doping control test following the win over Udinese.”
Pogba did not play in the match, but was selected for a randomized post-match doping test. The test showed higher-than-normal levels of testosterone, and NADO suspended the player. 먹튀검증
After the news of the player’s doping became public, Pogba’s club, Juventus, immediately released a statement. “Following an analysis conducted on August 21, 2023, Pogba has been given a precautionary suspension by NADO. The club can evaluate the following procedures”.
Testosterone, a type of steroid, is the main banned substance designated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). “If Pogba is found guilty of doping, he could face a ban of between two years and up to four years,” the BBC added. Pogba will have to provide evidence that he did not use the substance.
Doping cases in soccer are rare compared to other sports. Former Manchester United player Fred, 30, Fenerbahçe, was suspended by FIFA for four months in 2015 after a doping test revealed a “diuretic” substance when he played for Brazil at the Copa America.
In Serie A, Jose Palomino (33-Atalanta) was suspended last year after a doping test revealed the steroidal drug Clostebol. However, Palomino was later acquitted after a hearing. With cases like this, Pogba will have to wait and see.
Since returning to Juventus in the summer of 2022, Pogba has fallen through the cracks. He started just 10 games in all competitions, playing just 161 minutes. Instead of being a major boost to the Juventus midfield, he became a weekly liability and a disappointment.
This season, he’s been out of form since the start and has only appeared as a substitute. In the third round against Empoli, he complained of pain in his right thigh and was suspected to be injured, but the unexpected happened and his future is unclear.
