The City squad has returned home with the ‘big one’ – the Champions League trophy.
Manchester City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final of the 2022-23 season on Sunday (Nov. 11) in Turkkiye Istanbul to win the trophy. It was City’s first Champions League title in franchise history, and the club’s first triple crown after winning the English Premier League (EPL), FA Cup, and Champions League.
The City squad returned to England on the 12th. From the moment they stepped foot in the airport, there was no shortage of spectacle. Manager Pep Guardiola and captain Ilkay Gundogan walked out with the trophy. They were followed down the stairs by Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, John Stones and Calvin Phillips.
City will celebrate with a victory parade in downtown Manchester. Now that they’ve won their long-dreamed-of Champions League title, the celebration is likely to be more lavish than ever. For once, Manchester will be blue.
Guardiola made history by becoming the first manager in history to win the treble twice. He previously won the treble in 2008-09 as manager of FC Barcelona in Spain. In that season, Barcelona won the Champions League, La Liga, and the national cup. 스포츠토토
Guardiola is also the only manager to win three leagues in three consecutive seasons. He won three consecutive Spanish La Liga titles from 2009 to 2011, three consecutive German Bundesliga titles from 2014 to 2016, and three consecutive Premier League titles from 2021 to 2023.
City also set a record. Every team that has won the Champions League in the last decade has had a Croatian player. Luka Modric (Real Madrid), Mateo Kovacic (Chelsea), Ivan Perisic (Bayern Munich), and Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich).
However, City were crowned European champions without a player of Croatian nationality. Runners-up Inter Milan, on the other hand, did not win the title despite having Croatian international midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. Thus, City ended the “Croatian player = winner” formula.
