Up to 8 starters… NC pitching staff prepares for ‘variables in international competitions’

In the year 2023, when many international competitions are waiting, NC Dinos is strengthening preparations for the starting lineup.

Kim Soo-gyeong (44), NC pitching coach, recently announced through the club, “We are considering starting the 7th and 8th games in consideration of variables such as the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and the Asian Games.”

NC departed for Tucson, Arizona, USA on the 29th of last month and started spring camp with a 39-day schedule. After 2020, due to the Corona 19 pendemic (pandemic), the battery training was held only in Korea, but it went abroad in three years.

After completing the first turn of training on the 3rd, coach Kim said, “A lot of players who can compete for selection have joined this camp.” Although he did not reveal it directly, NC is currently busy looking for the 4th and 5th starters.

Up until the 3rd selection, it is solid. Foreign pitchers Eric Peddy (30), Taylor Widener (29), and native ace Koo Chang-mo (26) are firmly guarding the team. However, the lower selection has been a concern for NC since last season. 스포츠토토

There are many candidates. Shin Min-hyeok (24) and Song Myeong-ki (23), who already have selection experience, are competing with newcomers Shin Young-woo (19), Lee Jun-ho (23), and Lee Yong-jun (21). In addition, coach Kang In-kwon (51) sent a request to Lee Jae-hak (33), who is training in Korea, to “prepare as a starting pitcher.”

First of all, NC plans to create as many resources as possible for starting pitchers. As coach Kim said, it is because there can be a vacuum due to international competitions. Gu Chang-mo’s condition at the beginning of the season, which is participating in the WBC, was also taken,

Also, when playing a long race, the more pitching resources, the better. Even last year, whenever there was a vacancy in the starting lineup, Kim Si-hoon (24) and Kim Tae-kyung (22) appeared at each juncture and filled it up. Thinking of this, NC even mentioned ‘8 selections’, which can be considered a bit too much.

Coach Kim said, “As this is a camp held in a warm place for the first time in three years, I let the players plan their own pitching schedules according to their recovery status and routine so that they don’t get injured ahead of their motivation.” He continued, “I intend to guide you so that you can finish the camp without injury according to the planned pitching schedule.”
