Barcelona have been in a lot of trouble lately with the Negreira scandal. The possibility of a purchase spread as Barcelona were suspected of having financial ties with José Maria Enriquez Negreira, who served as vice-chairman of the Spanish Professional Football Referee Technical Committee in the past.
Spanish tax authorities have drawn a line on whether to buy Barcelona. It was revealed that Barcelona remitted 7 million euros (about 9.9 billion won) to a company owned by Negreira from 2001 to 2018, but did not view this as evidence of purchase.
Barcelona appealed their innocence by suing 14 local media outlets that had mentioned buying after the announcement by the tax authorities. However, controversy reignited when UEFA launched an investigation into Barcelona. UEFA plans to investigate whether the violation of Article 31, Paragraph 4 of the Disciplinary Regulations, Ethics and Disciplinary Matters.
It seems that Chairman Ceferin is putting a strong drive into the investigation. “The Barcelona case is the most serious situation I have ever seen in football,” he said strongly at the start of the investigation.
“It’s difficult to bring this up right now. We have an independent disciplinary committee, and I don’t know the details yet,” he told the Slovenian press “Ekipa.” We do it at the level, but UEFA has no time limit.”
